With deep roots at Aveda, JUUT was born as a collection of salons prioritizing education, integrity, and making the world a better place.
David Wagner, owner of JUUT Salonspa, attended the Horst Education Center to begin his career as a hairstylist. It was then that his long relationship with Horst Rechelbacher, the founder of the Aveda Corporation, began.
David began working as Horst’s assistant after graduating beauty school, followed by an upward move through many roles including stylist, salon manager, and vice president of the organization.
In September of 1985, David opened his first location and named it Salon Salon in Uptown Minneapolis MN. With a focus on world-class service and education, the salon thrived and by 1989 David was looking to expand to new locations. His mentor, Horst, suggested merging their two companies. In 1989, David and Horst became partners in Horst Salons Inc. David bought Horst out of the partnership in 1991 and ran the salons as Horst Salons until 1999 when they were renamed and become JUUT Salonspas.
In 1998, David bought the Yosh Salon in Palo Alto, California from famed stylist Yosh Toya. The group of salons changed names from Horst in Minnesota and Yosh in California to JUUT Salonspa in 1999. The name JUUT was chosen by David and his wife, Charlie, because it means “to uplift humanity and serve others.” In 2015, JUUT acquired a salon group in Arizona, previously known as Mood Swings.
David released his bestselling book, Life as a Daymaker: How to Change the World Simply by Making Someone’s Day.
Our Creative Hub on Loring Park in Minneapolis was established in 2022. and it’s the home of our Corporate Offices and the JUUT New Artist Salon where our newest team members hone their craft before being placed into our primary locations.
