A Comprehensive Timeline for All Your Pre-Travel Beauty Appointments

Because the way you prepare shapes the way you travel.

Many people know the travel experience begins long before you board the plane. It begins in the appointments you book and the quiet scheduling gymnastics you do in your head to help you feel your best while on vacation.

At JUUT Salonspa, we see it every day. Guests preparing for destination weddings, beach vacations, European adventures, anniversary trips, and cabin weekends up north. And the most common question we hear is simple:

“When should I schedule everything?”

So, for once and for all, here is a Daymaker’s comprehensive timeline for all your pre-travel beauty appointments so you feel polished, relaxed, and fully present from departure to return.

3–4 Weeks Before Travel

This is when you have transformative services that need time to soften.

Ultraceuticals Peel — A Signature Part of Our Performance Treatments

If you are scheduling a Performance Treatment facial before vacation, plan it at least 3 weeks before departure.

A peel is one of the most transformative treatments you can do for your skin, but it requires thoughtful timing. A peel works by creating a controlled renewal process within the skin. It gently removes the outermost layer of cells and stimulates fresh cell turnover beneath the surface.

It is the epitome of intentional skin care. And intentional care takes time.

If you are heading somewhere sunny, always let your Daymaker know. They will create a post-appointment skincare plan that protects and supports your results. This is also where SPF becomes essential. After your appointment, explore our collection of Jane Iredale foundations with built-in SPF for breathable coverage that protects while you travel.

2 Weeks Before Travel

Now is the time to refine and smooth.

Waxing

Schedule waxing 7 to 14 days before travel.

Why this timing works:

• Skin has time to calm redness and sensitivity

• Hair growth timing often aligns beautifully with your trip window

If you wax regularly, you can book closer to the 7 day mark. And remember, you know your body best. This is a supportive guideline, not a rulebook.

Haircut

Book your haircut 10 to 14 days before departure for that freshly cut, healthy look that still feels like you.

Why this timing works:

• Your haircut has time to settle naturally

• You can practice styling before you leave

• Edges soften for a lived-in, effortless feel

If you are traveling somewhere humid, let your stylist know. We can adjust shaping and product recommendations to support you in that environment.

5–7 Days Before Travel

This is the time to get all your refreshes done for that “just done” feel on vacation.

Hair Color

If you are planning a major color transformation, balayage, dimensional blonde, or a deeper brunette shift, timing your appointment thoughtfully before travel can help protect your results.

Interestingly, many of our Daymakers often recommend that regular guests schedule their color appointment after returning from vacation. Sun exposure, salt water, chlorine, and climate shifts can all impact tone and longevity, and waiting until after travel allows you to fully enjoy your trip without worrying about protecting fresh color.

With that in mind, we know many guests love a “cut and color” routine and prefer to look fresh for their vacation! It is especially understandable how you may want to book appointments together; this timing allows you to be efficient in your preparations.

If you prefer to have freshly colored hair for your trip, scheduling your appointment about one week before departure is typically ideal. This at least allows the hair cuticle time to settle, so pigment is better retained before exposure to sun, salt water, or humidity.

Why this timing works:

• The cuticle has time to close more fully after the color service

• Pigment has time to stabilize for better tone retention

• Your color still looks fresh and vibrant for photos

If you are maintaining your shade, a gloss refresh 1 to 2 weeks before departure is perfect for added shine and tone.

As an Aveda salon, our team will also guide you toward take-home travel minis and protective styling products. Using a UV protectant or leave-in treatment while traveling will help shield your color from sun exposure and keep your hair healthy throughout your trip. This is a MUST have if you decide to book your appointments prior to traveling.

Spa Facials and Dermaplaning

Schedule a spa or dermaplaning facial about one week before travel.

Long-haul flights, cabin air, and climate changes can dehydrate skin quickly. A facial before vacation boosts hydration levels and strengthens your complexion before you board.

Why this timing works:

• Enhances glow

• Boosts hydration before flights

• Allows minor extractions to heal

For long flights, we often recommend packing Ultraceuticals sheet masks and eye gels in your carry-on. They are ideal for replenishing moisture mid-flight and reducing puffiness before landing. It is one of our favorite travel rituals for guests who want to simplify their routine while maintaining healthy skin.

Curious before committing to a full pack? Add the eye gels to your next service as an enhancement and experience these B2 infused favorites for yourself.

1–3 Days Before Travel

As you are zipping up your suitcase, this is also the moment to complete the details of your self care.

Manicure and Pedicure

Schedule your manicure and pedicure 1 to 2 days before departure.

Why this timing works:

• Maximizes longevity

• Minimizes chips

If you are traveling for 10 days or more, we recommend scheduling a gel polish application, which offers added durability.

Want to elevate your nail care even further? We recommend applying Aveda Hand Relief to your hands and cuticles daily while traveling. A manicure lasts longest when the nails and surrounding skin are properly hydrated. When cuticles become dry or cracked, they can pull away from the nail plate, creating tiny gaps where polish begins to lift. Once lifting starts, chipping follows. Hand Relief replenishes moisture and supports the skin barrier around the nails. When massaged consistently into your cuticles and hands, it maintains flexibility in the nail folds and helps prevent the brittleness that leads to peeling and breakage.

After You Return

Flights and long road trips create subtle tension in the body. Dehydration, recycled air, hours of sitting. It lingers longer than we think.

Booking a post-travel massage within a few days of returning home can dramatically shift how you reenter daily life.

Why this matters:

• Releases tension in hips, low back, and shoulders from airplane seats, long car rides, and unfamiliar beds

• Supports lymphatic flow after long flights

• Helps you mentally transition back to routine with ease

Our Final Thought Before You Take Flight

The way you prepare for a trip determines how you experience it.

When your hair falls the way you hoped.

When your skin feels calm and supported.

When your body feels open rather than tight.

Preparation is not vanity. It is presence.

If you are planning travel, our Daymakers at JUUT Salonspa are always happy to help you map out a personalized pre-travel beauty timeline based on your destination, climate, and skin, nail, and hair goals.

We are here to support your entire journey. Because feeling your best should travel with you.
