Get a great haircut that makes you come alive

Want a cut that creates dimension, movement, and expression? A hair style that reflects your authentic beauty? We have a few words of advice on how you can set your stylist and yourself up for success.

How to prepare for your hair appointment

How to prepare for your hair appointment

We recommend that you wash your hair the day of or the day before your appointment unless instructed otherwise. Clean, dry hair is often the easiest for your hair stylist to work with.

We also suggest that you arrive at your appointment with freshly-styled hair. (But skip the heavy styling products, like gels, oils, or sprays to avoid product build-up.) Then your stylist can see your current cut at its best and gain insight into your hair styling abilities.

Please arrive on time so your stylist can consult, cut, and style your hair without feeling rushed. If you walk into your JUUT salon 10-15 minutes early, you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, peruse our fashion magazines, and take a relaxing moment for yourself.

How to instruct your hair stylist and get the results you want

Bring pictures for visual reference

Pictures speak a thousand words. Bring photos of yourself, and those that you find online, in magazines, or on social media, to help your stylist visualize what you love.

Be sure to be specific about the aspects of each cut that appeal to you, like the hair texture, length, or layers. Show your stylist examples of what you don’t like, too.

Discuss your hair history

Do you struggle with volumizing your fine hair? Hydrating your textured hair?

Share how your hair behaves with your stylist. Also be up-front about product allergies, damage, and recent chemical treatments, like coloring or perming. This insight can help them recommend the products best suited for your hair.

Be honest about your hair maintenance preferences

How often are you willing to return to your hair salon for trims? How much time can you spend styling your hair each day?

If you prefer low-maintenance hair styles, your stylist can tailor their recommendations to suit your needs.

We welcome questions — please feel free to ask them

Is your hair stylist suggesting something that leaves you feeling a little uncertain?

Ask why they recommend this particular style and how it will look on you. Inquire about how to style the look at home and what products you may need. Ask to see a picture of what they're recommending. The best hair stylists will have photo portfolios that help you visualize their suggestions.

Be specific — and show rather than tell when you can

If you have a vision of what you want, use your hands and indicate the length of the change. “I want my hair cut to here.” Also specify “chin-length” or “shoulder-length,” rather than saying “I’d like my hair cut short.”

Ask your stylist to do the same. When they turn your chair so you can visualize their recommendations in the mirror, it will ensure you’re both on the same page. (The definition of a “trim” can vary a lot.)

Be open to feedback

We encourage you to consider your stylist’s professional advice.

Your face shape, hair type, and lifestyle may not support the hair style you fell in love with in a magazine. They can guide you toward a look that’s ideally suited for you.

A great haircut is a collaboration

Help your stylist better understand your lifestyle, the unique challenges of your hair, and the results you’re after. When you do, you give them the insight they need to ensure you feel great when you walk out of our salon door.

We look forward to seeing you.
