Andi Tarte’s career at Juut began almost 30 years ago as a color director when the salon was called Horst and Friends and owned by Horst Rechelbacher. When the salon was sold to David Wagner, Tarte happily became part of the Juut family.  In her current role as director of education, Tarte focuses on teaching employees to be Daymakers for each other, in turn, allowing them to be Daymakers for their guests. “When I think about how to guide them, I think about where it all starts—with David and Charlie Wagner,” she says. “The intention of love is such…
For Leah Patrick, master stylist, connecting with clients is her favorite way to be a Daymaker. While she has had countless meaningful moments with clients and co-workers in her 11 years at Juut, a couple stand out as true examples of Daymaking. “I have one guest I met years ago when she came in for a sanctuary cut after being diagnosed with cancer,” she says. The client has stuck with Patrick for years, but life hasn’t been easy for this particular guest—she has endured two major surgeries in addition to cancer treatment. “She doesn’t come that often, but she…
“I had a client who came to me every two weeks for three years,” says Robbie Jacobs, master stylist at Juut in Edina. “She had really short hair that was only a half-inch to inch long.” Every week the client came in, she told Jacobs she was unhappy with the cut. “She kept saying it wasn’t working for her, and that we had to get it right,” Jacobs remembers. “She was very particular, and I could tell she had been to every hairdresser in town by the time she saw me.” Frustrated, Jacobs tried texturizing and any other technique…
After graduating high school, Maria Aleman-Aguirre knew what she wanted to do with her life, so she enrolled in the Aveda Institute. After she graduated, she was hired at Juut, where she polished her technical skills and learned all about being a Daymaker. “When I joined the beauty industry in cosmetology school, I realized right away that it was more than just learning to cut hair,” Aleman-Aguirre says. “I donated 12 inches of my hair while I was still in school.” With her passion for helping people, Juut was a natural fit for Aleman-Aguirre, and two and a half…
In her 10 years at Juut’s Palo Alto location, Tara Morrow, master stylist, says she experiences Daymaking every day. “Whether it’s from clients or co-workers, I go into Juut each day and am just overwhelmed by the Daymaking spirit,” she says. “I’ve gone through a lot of growing pains in the past decade from my early 20s to my early 30s,” she adds. “I’ve experienced depression, anxiety, loss of loved ones and getting married. My boss, Rocio, never blinked an eye at being supportive—I was allowed the space and support to grow up from girl to woman.” Morrow always…
Three years into her career at Juut, hair director and master colorist Lindsey Yozamp was working at the downtown location when she decided to pop downstairs into the mall on her break. “It was the holiday season, and I stopped into Cole Haan with my purse full of holiday gratuity cash,” she explains. “I set my purse down to look at some shoes and when I turned around, it was gone, along with a couple weeks worth of gratuity money.” Shaken, Yozamp returned to the salon to see her next client, where her co-workers quickly realized something was wrong…
For Accala Sullivan, salon manager in St. Paul, Daymaking usually revolves around her staff. While they are busy making the days of their clients, she is hard at work finding ways to spread extra joy and happiness to them. Currently, she’s honoring the guest service team, who spend their time at the front desk and handle four times the amount of guest interactions that service providers do. “We decided to do a ‘Guest Service Specialist Appreciation Week,’” Sullivan says. “We wanted to let them know we really value and appreciate everything they do by taking some extra steps to…
Some Daymaking stories are about big gestures people remember forever. But more often, Daymaking is about little moments where there’s an opportunity to do something small to make a big impact. Bethany Dorsey, assistant salon manager in St. Paul, says she puts the focus on these moments and on conversations that service providers have with guests so they can turn it into something big. “For example, the other day, I asked a guest if she needed something to drink,” she says. “She said she needed coffee because her coffee machine broke that morning.” After getting the guest her coffee,…
Julz LaMantia, hair director and master stylist at Juut’s Tempe, Arizona location, has had a front seat to the salon’s transformation since Juut took it over in February 2015. While she was happy with her previous employer, since Juut took the business over, LaMantia says the culture has been transformed by Daymaking. “The difference is amazing,” she says. “Once you adopt the culture, you grow as people and as a salon—even the guests have noticed and comment on the vibe here.” When Juut bought the old salon, nobody was let go. Of the 17 stylists who came on board,…
In her almost eight years at Juut as a stylist and makeup artist, Maria Candiotti has seen a variety of clients with a wide range of personalities and hair styles. But only one client ever came to her with burnt hair. “She lived in an old apartment, and the first time she used the oven, her hair got singed when she pulled a frozen pizza out of the oven,” she says. Embarrassed, the client came to the salon wearing a hat. She was horrified, but also had a sense of humor. “When she took off her hat, I could…
